A 30-year-old labourer, Jumma Dhobi, was found murdered at the Kala Academy complex in Campal on Friday morning, prompting a manhunt for two suspects.
Police received a PCR call at 6.57 am about a man lying in a pool of blood near a temporary shed at Darya Sangam, close to the ongoing Consumer Shopee exhibition.
Police found Dhobi lying face down with severe head injuries. Bloodstains were also found on a white wooden laminate sheet used to erect the shed.
Contractor Jagdishkumar Ranka of Mumbai identified the deceased as Dhobi, a native of Bihar residing at Dattagarth in Ponda. He was one of three labourers engaged in cleaning work at the site.
Preliminary investigations suggest two fellow labourers may have killed him using a sharp, heavy weapon. Scientific experts and the dog squad collected evidence before the body was sent for post-mortem examination.
Police have formed multiple teams to trace the absconding suspects. A case has been registered under Section 103 read with Section 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The motive remains unknown. Police are questioning people associated with the site and pursuing other leads.
