33 postal votes out of 758 rejected in Canacona

While there were virtually no rejected votes from general electorate of Canacona constituency, a total of 33 postal votes, out of 758 polled postal ballots, were rejected during the counting on Saturday.

There were as many as three votes cast on NOTA as well, which means at least three government servants from Canacona who were deputed on election duty did not want any of the five contestants from the constituency.  
An overall 253 electorate from the constituency have also pressed the NOTA button.  
Canacona constituency’s postal electorate had 804 voters, but 758 had availed the voting franchise.  
This is at a time, when government or moreover ECI has taken up a survey to find out reasons from the members of general electorate, who failed to go to polling booths to cast their votes on February 4.  
The 804 government servants from Canacona constituency deputed at various parts of the State on election duty were provided with ballots and had 35 days to cast their votes and drop it into the ballot boxes kept at the Returning Office at Canacona.  
The highest number (269) of postal ballots went in favour of BJP candidate Vijay Poi Khot, who eventually lost the polls, ex-minister and BJP rebel candidate Ramesh Tawadkar got 234 postal ballots, who stood third in the list and the MLA-elect Isidore Fernandes got 214 postal ballots.  
MGP’s Gourish Bandekar got 3 votes, while AAP’s Sandesh Telekar got 2 from the valid 725 votes and NOTA (3). In all, 33 postal ballots were rejected.
