The Government of India has invited four couples from the fishing community in Goa to join the 75th Independence Day celebrations in New Delhi. The couples were selected for their dedication and contributions to the traditional fishing community in Goa.
The four couples invited are Vasant Pednekar and Lakshmi Pednekar, Francisco Fernandes and Dr Renuka Fernandes, Sabi Fernandes and Filomena Veronica Lorenco, and Jacinto Guriao and Caseel Guriao.
The couples are all from different parts of Goa and represent the diversity of the state’s fishing community. They are all passionate about their work and are committed to preserving the traditional fishing practices of Goa.
The invitation to the Independence Day celebrations is a recognition of the couples’ hard work and dedication. It is also a way for the government to show its appreciation for the important role that traditional fishermen play in the Indian economy and society.
The couples are all excited to attend the Independence Day celebrations and are grateful for the opportunity to represent the fishing community. They are looking forward to meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other dignitaries and sharing their stories about the challenges and triumphs of life as a traditional fisherman.
