The SGPDA will finally float the wholesale fish market tender for the collection of sopo fees at an estimated cost of Rs 3.99 crore.
SGPDA Chairman, MLA Krishna Daji Salkar informed that the sopo tender will be floated in the next 10 days since the government has given the approval for the tender.
He said the tender will be allotted to the highest bidder, saying all the issues and disputes relating to sopo collection fees will be resolved once the tender is floated and awarded to the highest bidder.
“The PDA has come to the figure of Rs 3.99 crore based on the average revenue in the wholesale fish market. Right now, the PDA is collecting the sopo fees departmentally. There was a delay in floating the tender because of the lengthy government procedure,” he said.
To a question, the PDA chairman pointed out there’s a general misconception that the SGPDA is responsible for the stink and mess at the wholesale fish market and the retail market. “Our jurisdiction is restricted within the compound wall of the two markets. What is happening outside the complex walls falls in the jurisdiction of the Margao Municipal Council,” he added.
