Acting swiftly in the murder of history-sheeter, Anwar Shaikh at Moti Dongor on late Friday night, the Goa police has arrested four accused persons, including three cousin brothers, behind the murder.
The police informed that the murder took place around two hours and half after the deceased Anwar had picked up a quarrel with accused Jagesh Metti near the railway station road by splashing beer on his face.
District Superintendent of Police, South, Arvind Gawas informed that accused Jagesh Metti went to Moti Dongor and narrated the incident at the railway station to his cousin brothers Sadashiv Kaddi and Basavraj Kaddi, who reportedly decided to take revenge. “At about 10.45 pm on Friday, when deceased Anwar had gone to Moti Dongor to visit his wife, he was assaulted by all the three cousins and by their friend, Nagraj Naikar with koita, coconut tree log, granite stone and wash basin. During the scuffle, the accused also sustained injuries,” SP Gawas informed.
He said accused Nagraj Naikar (26), resident of Moti Dongor was arrested in the night itself from Margao. Similarly, accused Jagesh Metti (29) and Sadashiv Kaddi (28), both residents of Moti Dongor were arrested on Saturday morning from their hideouts at Ponda. Fourth accused Basavraj Kaddi (34), also a resident of Moti Dongor, was arrested Saturday afternoon from Margao,” he added.
The police has registered a case of murder in connection with Anwar’s death upon a complaint lodged by one Suraj Chari, a resident of Ambelim.
The said investigation of the case was taken up in right earnest under the leadership of DySP Serafino Dias, who led the team comprising of PIs Sachin Narvekar, Kapil Nayak, Gurudas Kadam, Melson Colaco, Santosh Desai, Sagar Dhatkar, Navin Desai, ASIs Madhukar Rane, Subhash Naik, HC Samir Nagnuri and PCs Goraknath Gawas, Avinash Naik, Rizwan Shaikh, Vijaykumar Kamathan and others.
Meanwhile, the police has deployed a picket at Moti Dongor as a precautionary measure following Friday night murder.
