Four temporary shops were gutted in a major fire in Calangute in the early hours of Tuesday, fire officials said.
The Pilerne Fire Station received a call at around 4.45 am.
Four fire engines were pressed into service, but by the time the blaze was brought under control all the four shops belonging to Edwin Rodrigues were completely gutted.
Two fire tenders from Mapusa and one each from Pilerne and Panaji fire station fought for five hours to bring the fire under control.
A car belonging to the owner and parked adjacent to the shops was also gutted in the fire, a fire official informed.
Gift items, utensils, plastic, crockery and other items stored in the shops were completely burnt.
Short circuit is suspected to be the cause of fire, but police and power departments are investigating to establish the exact cause of fire.
