In a major surgery, neurosurgeons from KLES Dr Prabhakar Kore Hospital and Medical Research Centre, Belagavi, have successfully removed a brain tumour from a 25-year-old woman by a neuro-endoscope surgery.
She was relieved of severe headache and frequent vomiting caused due to the deep-seated brain tumour.
The brain tumour was also causing blockage to the ventricular system posing challenge to surgeons as the tumour was close to the brain's centre with no scope for margin of error.
The surgery was done through a single keyhole with the newly provided neuro-endoscopic system for the first time in this hospital.
“It's a boon to the neurosurgeons and patients to have a neuro endoscope, with neuro-navigation provided at the KLE's Dr Prabhakar Kore hospital. Use of neuro-endoscope in these deep, critical areas of the brain is beneficial. It provides a full view of the tumour through a narrow brain window, causing very minimal brain injury. This benefits patients having brain tumours,” Dr Vikram TP said.
Dr Prakash Rathod, Dr Abhishek Patil and neuro anaesthetist Dr Teena Desai assisted the surgery.
“We are extremely happy that our team has successfully carried out a very difficult surgery effectively using the world class facility comprising the recently introduced neuro-endoscopic system, neuro-navigation and microscope,” KLES Hospital's Medical Director and CEO, Dr M V Jali said.
Chairman of KLE Society Dr Prabhakar Kore congratulated the medical team for achieving this feat.
