The GSUDA was compelled to recall the vehicles and send them to the company to rectify the flaws.
According to sources in MMC, GSUDA had procured 43 such vehicles in September 2016 and had allotted 7 to MMC, Margao (7 ), Mapusa (5), Pernem (1), Sakhali (3), Curchorem (3), Cuncolim (3), Ponda (2), Valpoi (2), Quepem (3), Bicholim (3), Sanguem (2) and Canacona (2).
“The mini-pickups were allotted to municipal councils to collect garbage lying along the narrow roads and those areas not accessible to big compactors and garbage trucks. However within a month, the vehicles started giving problems and were unable to carry the load and climb up the slopes,” said the source.
“All municipal councils wrote to GSUDA about the engine problem and GSUDA immediately recalled all 43 garbage vehicles with an assurance that the vehicles would be repaired and sent back. The cost of each vehicle is about Rs 4,69,174 and the total cost of 43 vehicles works out to about Rs 2,01,74,482,” informed

A garbage mini-pickup driver confirmed that the vehicle loaded with garbage struggled to climb the slopes.
Confirming that the garbage minipickups alloted by GSUDA to the MMC had been withdrawn from service, MMC Chairperson Deepak Naik said GSUDA took back all the vehicles with an assurance that the fault would be rectified and the vehicles would be sent back.
“We have recently received a letter from GSUDA stating that the vehicles have repaired and they could be collected from their premises,” added Naik.

VASCO: Admitting that the garbage minivans had been recalled on account of a flaw in the engine, GSUDA project manager Jagdish Hosamani has said the company had agreed to replace the engine fitted on the vehicles.
“After receiving complaints from the municipal councils, all the vehicles were recalled on account of a minor technical fault in the engine. Company officials have agreed to replace the engine and also agreed to provide a one-year warranty,” said Hosamani, when he was contacted by media persons.
