45-yr-old woman killed after bus hits 2-wheeler

Navita Kushali Velip, 45 succumbed to the injuries at CHC Canacona, when she and her husband were hit from behind by a overtaking bus late Saturday evening at Karvem-Gaondongrim.  

According to Canacona Police, Kushali Velip was riding the bike (GA-09 C-2560) with pillion rider Navita Velip, when they were hit from the rear by an overtaking bus (GA-10 T-2777) on reaching Karvem area of Gaondongrim at about 6.30 pm. 

The couple was thrown off the bike in the mishap. 

Both were shifted to CHC-Chaudi, but Navita succumbed to her injuries soon after.  

The husband wife duo of Karvem-Gaondongrim were returning home from their cashew plantations on their two-wheeler, while the private bus was reportedly returning with school children of a government school at Gaondongrim from a school picnic. 

Police had to intervene late Saturday evening to defuse a tense situation after locals began to gang up on the bus driver.  

Police have booked the driver Diwakar Narayan Desai, resident of Mastimoll for driving the bus in a rash and negligent manner under sections 279, 337, and 304-A of the IPC. Canacona police is investigating further.
