Members of Goa Suraksha Manch from Vasco on Sunday announced their support to Goa Mining People’s Front’s (GMPF) call for a Goa bandh on February 26 while appealing to the people of Mormugao to come out and support the peaceful bandh.
Speaking to the media on Sunday, GSM youth president Nitin Faldesai said mining activity was the backbone of Goan economy.
“This mining activity going on for over 300 years was suddenly stopped by the BJP. There are over 3,00,000 people who are mining dependents across various locations in Goa who are suffering as a result. It was the duty of the state government to ensure resumption of mining activities, but they have only given fake assurances to the people. GSM today wants to make a statement that the BJP government at the state and the Centre has fooled 3 lakh Goans,” said Faldesai.
He added, “GMPF has decided to organize a bandh in the mining belts across Goa. Around two days ago, Mormugao mining dependents also appealed to the people to support the bandh in whatever way they could. GSM also supports this bandh organised by GMPF and we appeal to the people to voluntarily come out in large numbers and support the call.”
