The Education Department on Friday appointed 50 additional counsellors in schools, as part of ongoing efforts to manage students facing stress and other types of pressure.
Around 50 counsellors and observers have been appointed in around 250 high schools and higher secondary schools to guide students after learning that they require a large number of counsellors for counselling students during stressful times.
Director of Education Gajanan Bhat informed The Goan that 50 counsellors had been appointed on Friday.
In the last three years, the Goa Education Development Corporation (GEDC) had appointed 40 counsellors and 11 supervisors for 191 high schools and 51 higher secondary schools.
Last year, the government re-notified the scheme and accordingly, the GEDC had invited applications from candidates in October 2017.
According to counsellors and supervisors, as many as 27 types of issues have been identified among students which include sexual harassment, relationships, nutritional problems and insufficient attention from parents.
