The Goa Government’s Water Resources Department will undertake a statewide cleanliness drive on October 2, Gandhi Jayanti, to clean natural ponds and water bodies across the state. Around 50 natural ponds in North and South Goa have been selected, Water Resources Minister Subhash Shirodkar said. The natural pond at Shet Bimbal in Khotoda panchayat, Sattari, is among those to be cleaned, with preparations already underway.
The department has previously undertaken repairs and conservation works on ponds, bandharas and water storage systems in Sattari. Since the Bimbal pond was constructed by the department, special attention will be given to its cleanliness and maintenance. Local residents, villagers, elected representatives and WRD officials and employees will participate in the drive. Silt, overgrown grass, aquatic vegetation, waste and other obstructions affecting water flow will be inspected and removed as required.
