500 booked for illegal touts-tourist activities

The State police have booked over 500 persons under preventive measures and for creating nuisance on the beach including consumption of alcohol in the north district, this month, as the State is witnessing heavy footfalls in view of Christmas and year-end festivities.

Data shared by North SP Nidhin Valsan states that majority of them are charged under preventive measures. The figures also include action taken against 28 for drinking alcohol on the beach, which is prohibited as per Tourism Department’s new policy released in October.

“We assisted the tourism department by providing staff to carry out the drive against the menace on the beaches,” Valsan said, adding the arrangement is for the ongoing month.

While 284 are issued notices under section 107 (Security for keeping the peace in other cases) and 47 issued notices under section 109 (Security for good behaviour from suspected persons), 60 persons were issued notices under section110 (Security for good behaviour from habitual offenders) of the CrPC. In addition to these, 67 illegal touts/guides and 23 beggars also faced action under relevant sections of the law.

The tourism policy formally bans cooking and consuming liquor on the state’s popular beaches, it also prohibits touts, beggars, and illegal setting up of beach beds, etc.
