516 attend eye camp in Canacona

As many as 516 people attended a free eye camp in Canacona on Friday, which is part of the statewide ‘Vision for All’ campaign.

Deputy Speaker and Canacona MLA Isidore Fernandes inaugurated the camp conducted at the Shree Mallikarjun V High School, Char Rasta, Canacona in association with officials of Canacona Community Health Centre (CHC), Colorcon pharmaceutical company, Prasad Netra Chikitsalaya of Udupi and the Canacona BDO.

The camp is aimed at spreading awareness on eye disorders, early detection of ailments, detecting refractive errors and providing corrective glasses free of cost to underprivileged communities as part of the 60th anniversary of Goa Liberation Day.

A team of doctors/eye specialists from Prasad Netra Chikitsalaya and GMC hospital examined 516 patients from various parts of the municipality. They were evaluated for vision (refractive error) and eye ailments. For those in need of surgery, Prasad Netra Chikitsalaya and GMC Hospital will conduct these surgeries free of cost.

Some people were also provided eye drops for eye lubrication and free medicines.

Some medical items such as wheelchairs and walkers were also provided for disabled persons in various parts of Canacona constituency and these have been sponsored by the Central and State financial assistance of the social welfare department.

The Canacona BJP Mandal assisted as volunteers to conduct the camp along with Canacona Health Officer Dr Jose Tavares, other medical officers and staff of Canacona CHC.
