6 water bodies notified as wetlands in State

NO CONSTRUCTIONS WILL BE ALLOWED IN WETLAND AREAS

The government has notifiedsix water bodies as wetlandsin the State, given their criticalsignificance for the ecosystemservices and biodiversity values for local communities andsociety at large.

The six wetland bodies notified are the Cottombi Lake,Xeldem Lake, Toyyar Lake,Dashi Lake, Sarzora Lake andNanda Lake.

The wetland areas alongwith the zone of influence, including the buffer zone, havealso been notified in the notification published on behalfof the Department of Environment and Climate Change.

Any kind of construction,conversion for non-wetlanduses, setting up of any industry will not be allowed in thewetland areas. However, traditional fishing, farming andcultural activities will be allowed in wetland and zones ofinfluence areas. 

Trees will not be allowed inwetland areas, but indigenousplantations will be permittedin zones of influence.


SOLAR-POWERED PUMPING WATERSCHEME FOR FARMERS NOTIFIED

PANAJI: The government on Thursday notified the solar-powered pumping water scheme for farmers in the State.

The scheme is for the implementation of programme ofComponent-B of Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha (PM-KUSUM) to provide offgrid, standalone Solar Photovoltaic WaterPumping Systems (SPWPS) to farmers (inherited/selfowned/caretaker cultivator) with Subsidy Assistance for theyear 2021-2022 in the State,” states the notification in theGazette.

The scheme shall be implemented through the GoaEnergy Development Agency (GEDA).THE 6 WETLANDSdocument to identify the wetlands in the State.
