GOACAN has launched a 60-day awareness campaign on drowning prevention measures in Goa, aiming to encourage action from government officials, elected representatives, educational institutions, parent-teacher associations, NGOs, and trade bodies.

The campaign will continue until July 25, observed as World Drowning Prevention Day, and will focus on raising awareness that drowning is a leading cause of accidental deaths.

GOACAN expressed concern over the deaths of children, students, youth, adults, and tourists due to drowning incidents in rivers, wells, water tanks, and the sea.

The campaign will highlight issues such as lack of safety signage, inadequate first-aid knowledge, and absence of rescue equipment. It will also promote swimming lessons, water safety training, safe rescue practices, boating regulations, and flood risk management.
