72-unit mortuary at dist hospital is ready

MARGAO

The 72-unit mortuary at the South Goa district hospital is ready for commissioning and is expected to come handy for the Health Services once the hospital starts functioning as a Covid hospital.

The cabinets have already been tested and the GSIDC has found the cooling temperatures of the individual units well within the parameters. Except for some problem in respect of the display panel of nine units, the mortuary functioning has been found satisfactory, informed GSIDC General Manager Jude Carvalho.

Carvalho has personally descended on the South district hospital building on Tuesday after Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and Health Minister Vishwajit Rane declared that the hospital will play host to a Covid hospital in the wake of the spike in cases in the state.

He informed that the cooling temperature at the mortuary has been found well within the parameters, adding that the Health Services can now use it. “We have found that the display panels of nine units have been showing different temperatures though the cooling inside was found satisfactory,” he said, adding that the contractor has been told to replace the display panels by this weekend.

The GSIDC had handed over the 72-unit mortuary to the Director of Health Services on May 11, but it was not put to use for reasons best known to the health authorities.
