The installation of the 77-foot statue of Lord Rama at Shree Samsthan Gokarn Partagali Jeevottam Math (SSGPJM) in Partagali is in its final stages.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has accepted the invitation of SSGPJM Vidhyadeesh Swami to attend the celebrations marking 550 years (Saardh Panchashatabdi Mahotsava) since the establishment of the Math. The Prime Minister is scheduled to unveil the bronze statue of Lord Rama on Friday (28 November).
The statue, which was built elsewhere, was brought to the site in three pieces. All three sections have now been joined, with only a few works remaining. “The installation is in its final stages. Once the bow and arrow and one of the hands are fixed, the statue will be fully ready for the Prime Minister’s unveiling,” said a source from the organising committee.
SSGPJM expects lakhs of followers and devotees for the 11-day celebrations and has made extensive arrangements. Over 650 flats have been built to house guests, a helipad has been constructed near the Math for the Prime Minister’s arrival, and several development works have been launched, which may take another 2-3 years to complete.
Security arrangements for the events, including the Prime Minister’s visit, are being handled in coordination with the State government.
Meanwhile, the statue site has already become a tourist attraction. Many people have been visiting to watch the installation work, and tourists are also being taken to view the progress, sources said.
