Goa Municipal Employees Association on Friday served a 15-day ultimatum on the government and Municipal Councils across the state to implement all pending issues and also confirm about the implementation of the 7th Pay commission recommendations within the deadline.
The Association led by president Keshav Prabhu warned that the employees will resort to direct action any time after the expiry of the 15-day deadline.
Addressing the media after holding a meeting of the Association members of various municipal councils in the Union office at Margao Municipal Council, Keshav hoped that better counsel will prevail, and that all the municipal councils will settle the long-pending issues.
He further said the municipal councils will further confirm the implementation of the 7th Pay Commission recommendations to the municipal employees at the earliest but not later than 15 days from the receipt of this representation.
He also said all the workers are perturbed by the statement of the Jt Secretary, Finance against the implementation and or granting/extending benefits of the 7th pay commission recommendation to the municipal staff/employees.
“This Association has strongly refuted the concerns of the Jt secretary, Finance as the same are totally illegal, as there is existing settlement under which all the councils have bound themselves to extend all the benefits and wage structure to council employees at par with government employees, including the implementation of the pay commission recommendations from time to time,” Keshav said.
The Association has decided to serve the copies of the ultimatum on the municipal councils of Margao, Mormugao, Curchorem, Ponda, Canacona, Cuncolim, Quepem, Sanguem, Mapusa, Sanquelim, Valpoi and Bicholim, besides the Director of Municipal Administration, Chief Secretary and the Jt Finance Secretary.
