The accused, Mahanand Bhandari (46), who was detained by the police on Thursday, was arrested on charges of murdering his wife, Manjusha, at Mirabag-Sanvordem.
Curchorem PI Ravi Dessai informed that Manjusha was stabbed with a sharp object on the wrist and forehead. The accused has been sent to seven days remand, but was admitted in Hospicio in Margao after he complained of chest pain.
Speaking to The Goan, PI Dessai said Curchorem Police registered the offense against the accused under Section 302 of IPC.
“During interrogation, it came to light that the husband and wife would quarrel with each other over monetary matters. Mahanand revealed that his wife used to demand Rs 5,000 or more money frequently, due to which there were frequent fights between the couple,” informed PI Dessai.
PI Dessai further said the accused Mahanand was sent to seven days remand. “He later complained of chest pain and was admitted in Hospicio in Margao.”
It may be recalled that Manjusha was allegedly murdered between 12.30 and 1 pm on Thursday. The police after receiving information rushed to the spot and conducted inquest panchnama. Later, DIG Vimal Gupta and DySP Sammy Tavares visited the crime scene to take stock of the incident. The body was lying on the floor and police had also recovered some evidence from the crime scene. Later, Mahanand Bhandari, husband of Manjusha, was detained in this connection.
Locals nearby informed that Manjusha was a housewife and a mother of two girls.
