Man drowns in Canca pond

MAPUSA

A 45-year-old man from Canca, Mapusa, drowned in a pond on Friday.

The incident occurred at around 12.45 pm when the deceased went to have bath in the pond.

Police sources informed that the deceased Deepak Gawas alias Shetty of D’Mello-vaddo, Canca had got down into the pond to have a bath.

Locals who saw his body floating informed the Mapusa fire brigade who rushed to the spot.

But before the fire officials could get down, a local jumped into the pond and retrieved the body of the deceased, an eyewitness said.

The body was later sent for postmortem in GMC Hospital. Further investigations are in progress.
