8 arrested by Valpoi police, secure bail

PANAJI: Valpoi police on Tuesday arrested eight of the 16 accused booked under various sections of Indian Penal Code for unlawful assembly, rioting, intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace in furtherance of common intention. Those arrested include Deelip Paryekar, Anand Rane, Raju Sawant, Virendra Rane, Vishnu Sawant, Suresh Sawant, Satish Majik and Ramesh Gaonkar.

These eight accused, however, have secured bail. It is learnt that the 16 accused, who were allegedly under the influence of alcohol at the time of offence, closed in on the MLA through the side exit to the stage in order to avoid the crowd of Rane's supporters.
