Eight persons were injured when a tourist bus carrying 40 passengers fell on its side along the Bogmalo road on Thursday afternoon.
According to sources, the bus had picked up the passengers, most of them from Chhattisgarh, from a hotel in Bogmalo and was taking them for a conference when the bus fell on its side at a sharp curve along the way.
Locals rushed to help the passengers of the bus and while three persons suffered serious injuries, five passengers escaped with minor injuries.
An eyewitness and social worker Ajay Thorat said the injured persons were shifted to the hospital in local taxis, while a fire extinguisher from a local restaurant was used to spray on leaking diesel from the fuel tank of the bus to prevent a fire.
Bogmalo panchayat Deputy Sarpanch Sankalp Mahale said the tourists and locals must drive carefully along the sharp curve at the Bogmalo road.
"We have seen a lot of vehicles parked along the road between the Panchayat office and Bogmalo church, making the road even more congested and narrow. We will now issue notices to vehicle owners who park their vehicles along the road," said Mahale.
A senior police official Dharmesh Angle who arrived at the site said that the police would carry out an investigation to ascertain the cause of the accident and will initiate necessary action accordingly.
