Eight persons were injured in a land dispute between two groups at Keri-Sattari on Sunday and three persons have been arrested in this connection.

According to reports, the two groups have been involved in frequent disputes over the cultivation of one particular plot in Keri.

Valpoi Police Inspector Sagar Ekoskar said one such dispute during cultivation led to clashes between Gayatri Gawas along with her group and Gurudas Gawas along with his group, leaving eight persons injured.

PI Ekoskar said counter complaints have been lodged at Valpoi police station.

In her complaint, Gayatri Gawas said several members of her group were allegedly assaulted by Gurudas Gawas and members of his group.

Gurudas Gawas lodged a counter complaint against Gayatri Gawas and members of her group levelling similar charges.

Valpoi police has arrested Gayatri Gawas and two members of her group, Krishna Gawas and Gopal Gawas.

“Further inquiries are underway and others will be charged and arrested,” said PI Ekoskar.

Meanwhile, Gayatri Gawas has alleged that those assaulted have been arrested, while the accused are yet to be arrested by police and has threatened to take the matter to the women’s commission if the chief minister does not act in the matter.

Speaking to reporters in Valpoi, Gayatri Gawas said a video of their assault had gone viral on social media.

“This video clearly shows the other group assaulting us with knives and stones. We demand justice in the matter. We demand that Chief Minister Pramod Sawant order a detailed inquiry in the matter, else we have no option but to petition the women's commission,” said Gawas.
