8 injured as bus rams into tree at Bicholim

The driver and seven passengers were injured after a private bus transporting workers to a company at Van-Maulingem rammed into a tree on Monday evening.

According to police sources the accident occurred at Lakherem Bordem at about 4pm, when the driver was taking the workers for the evening shift in the bus (GA-05-T-7527).

The driver lost control of the vehicle on the main road and the bus rammed into a mango tree.

The driver Ramakant Pilgaokar (Piligao) and seven passengers, Somnath Harmalkar (Bordem-Bicholim), Vasant Teli (Bhailipeth-Bicholim), Laxman Shet (Mayem), Ulhas Falkar (Piligao), Vishnu Salkar (Bordem-Bicholim), Harichandra Kauthankar (Narvem) and Sachin Talawnekar (Bordem) were injured in the mishap.

They were shifted to the Bicholim Community Health Centre and are undergoing treatment.

In the evening, Bicholim MLA Chandrakant Shetye and Mayem MLA Premendra Shet visited the hospital to enquire about the condition of the passengers. Bicholim Head Constable Rupesh Halarnkar is investigating the case under the guidance of his superiors.
