The structures were demolished in the presence of Quepem Mamlatdar Prataprao Gaonkar and other officials.
Speaking to The Goan, Quepem Mamlatdar Gaonkar said eight concrete structures at Cuppavada, Adnem-Balli, were demolished by deploying an earth mover.
“The plots were vacant and belongs to the government. On March 1, few residents from Cuppavada including the Adnem Balli sarpanch had complained that such controversial constructions are going on without permissions. Acting on the complaint, I prepared inspection report after conducting the inspection of the site on March 3.”
“On March 6, a hearing in this matter was held at the Quepem Mamlatdar’s office, but nobody attended the hearing and the order for demolition was issued,” Gaonkar added.
Gaonkar said the land belongs to the government and no one can construct any concrete structure without obtaining permission.
When asked whether there was any resistance from the locals during the demolition, Gaonkar said there was no law and order situation and demolition process went smoothly.
