8 suspended cops back in service

PANAJI

In the department where suspensions usually remain a forgotten case until months, here’s an instance where eight policemen suspended for creating ruckus in a Saligao-based restaurant are back into service in less than two months.

In a blatant misuse of power, the group had come together at the bar and restaurant for alcohol and non-vegetarian cuisine to celebrate Gatari, ahead of the Shravan month that commenced on July 28. After relishing a range of food and hard drinks, the Rs 8,000 bill shocked them.

The owner complained that the cops not only refused to pay the bill; they were a nuisance. Assistant Sub Inspectors Sohan Tulaskar (Panaji wireless) and Vijaybahadur Patel (Vasco police station); Head Constables Jayesh Agarwadekar (Traffic Cell, Vasco) and Vasudev Korgaonkar (Special Branch Centre, Vasco); and Constables Prajyot Phadte, Pranesh Phadte, both posted at Ponda Trafic Cell, Neetej Borkar (SB Centre Panaji) and Sunil Mhaldekar (Calangute PS) were identified as the culprits.

No official complaint was lodged but the department was quick to suspend its errant policemen. At the same speed, the department revoked their suspension.

The Goan is in receipt of the order that directs the re-instated personnel to report to the GRP camp. “On the recommendation of the Suspension Review Committee in its meeting held on September 16, 2022 in the chamber of IGP (Goa), Panaji, the below mentioned Police Personnel are hereby, reinstated into service from suspension, with immediate effect, without prejudice to the departmental action pending against them. On reinstatement into service, they are temporarily attached to GRP Camp, Altinho, Panaji until their regular postings are issued by the Police Establishment Board,” the order states naming the personnel and their current posting.

It also specifies that their suspension from July 27, 2022 to the date prior to joining the duty will be decided upon final order in the departmental enquiry.
