A crucial meeting held at the Police Headquarters in Panaji on Friday revealed that nearly 850 police personnel have not yet reported to their new postings, despite many being relieved from their previous postings.
The meeting, chaired by the Deputy Inspector General of Police, saw in-charges of all police stations and units being directed to ensure that the transferred personnel comply with their new postings by Sunday without fail. Most of these personnel had already been served their relieving letters but failed to join duty at the allocated locations while others were not issued relieving letters.
Sources revealed to The Goan that Superintendents of Police from respective districts and units have been asked to obtain compliance reports from within their jurisdictions by Monday and submit the same to their higher-ups.
The meeting also saw senior officers expressing concern and disappointment over what they termed as blatant indiscipline in the force. Officers reportedly took strong objection to the fact that these large numbers of personnel were openly defying the transfer orders, despite clear instructions from the Director General of Police Alok Kumar that salaries of such personnel would be processed only from their new place of posting.
It is also learnt that a detailed report will be submitted to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, who also holds the Home portfolio. The cabinet had last year decided to transfer officers who have served at one place for more than three years, with instructions for immediate compliance.
The department, recently also decided to effect phase-wise transfers of personnel who have been posted at the same police station or unit for over five years, in line with the broader restructuring plan.
