In a collaborative effort between Carmel College and Chicalim Bio-Crusaders, third-year history students embarked on a field trip to Chicalim to delve into its rich historical roots. Led by Cyril Fernandes, convenor of Chicalim Bio-Crusaders, the students were eager to explore the caves dating back to the megalithic period, as part of their History Through Heritage course.
"We came here to witness the heritage, culture, and caves of Chicalim. We even entered the tiny tunnel and saw how it was designed by people back then," expressed one enthusiastic student.
With seven in-class sessions preceding the trip, the students were well-prepared to immerse themselves in an outdoor session t explore the history of Chicalim. "I was invited to teach the students the history through heritage course. And they chose Chicalim because of its rich history and heritage of the village. The history of Chicalim dates back to 15,000 years. During the megalithic period," shared Cyril Fernandes.
Accompanied by faculty members, the students eagerly explored the caves and tunnels, gaining firsthand insight into the lives of ancient inhabitants. "Exploring the area was mesmerising and it was a great experience. We are looking forward to exploring more," stated a faculty member.
