The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Monday became the first political party in the State to announce its candidates for the Zilla Panchayat (ZP) elections scheduled for December 13. The party released a 14-member list covering constituencies in both North and South Goa.
This first list has been announced even though the State Election Commission (SEC) has not yet notified the full election schedule.
According to the press statement, AAP has fielded Suvarna Harmalkar from Morjim, Prasad Shahapurkar from Dhargal, Umesh Kauthankar from Sirsaim and Perpet Michael D’Mello from Maem. Pascal Fernandes will contest from Corlim, and Arjun Gurav has been named the candidate for Nagaragao.
In South Goa, AAP has nominated Luis Oliveira for Raia, Isaca Fernandes for Velim and Joseph Pimenta for Benaulim. Antonio Leao Fernandes has been chosen for Colva, Beatriz D’Souza for Navelim and Urmila Umesh Kalekar for Sanvordem. James Fernandes will contest from Xeldem, while Rajesh Gaonkar has been named the candidate for Poinguinim.
The announcement was issued by State President Amit Palekar and State Convenor Atishi. While AAP has announced its candidates and made it clear that it will contest the polls alone, the Congress is expected to form a united opposition front with the Goa Forward Party and the Revolutionary Goans Party.
