Hyderabad youth feared drowned at Baga beach

A youth from Hyderabad who went to rescue his friend struggling at the Baga beach ended up being feared drowned barely hours on arrival in Goa on Monday evening.

According to reports, the incident took place at the Baga beach near Tito's Lane, when Parvez Shaikh (24) and five friends had arrived in the State on Monday.

When the group reached the beach in Baga Calangute in the evening, Mohammed Ibrahim went into the water to have a swim. After some time, he began to struggle in the sea and Shaikh rushed into the sea to save his friend.

Other friends raised an alarm and alerted lifeguards on duty. Some lifeguards went to their rescue and managed to rescue Ibrahim and bring him ashore.

However, Shaikh disappeared in the water and could not be located. Teams from the Calangute police, tourist police and coastal police also rushed to the site and searched till Monday night, but could not trace Shaikh.

According to sources, the young tourists from Hyderabad had left for Goa by bus. Their passenger bus, however, broke down along the way and the group then hired a taxi and reached Goa on Monday itself. Shaikh had reportedly paid for the taxi fare.
