AAP claims Palekar’s arrest part of conspiracy by BJP-led govt

Says party leader being pressured to join ruling party

PANAJI

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Thursday said that the arrest of their leader Amit Palekar is a conspiracy by BJP-led state government who is trying to shield main accused in the Banastarim accident case.

AAP MLA Venzy Viegas questioned the intention behind arresting Palekar without any warrant. He said that this is a conspiracy to defame the party and the leader.

Viegas said that if the arrest is for destroying the evidence then why more than 20 days after the  incident took place, when the prime accuse Paresh Sawardekar is already on bail.

The MLA also said that BJP was pressurizing Palekar to join the party. “BJP is using Crime Branch to pressurize Palekar,” he said.

The AAP leaders said that it was not just Palekar who was present for the party, which was attended by Sawardekar but several other people and they should be also called for questioning. They questioned why the main accused are out on bail.
