PANAJI: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Goa unit has demanded the immediate upgradation of the Ponda ID Hospital into a super speciality facility, warning of a Jan Andolan if its demands are not met.
In a press statement issued a while ago, AAP Goa chief Valmiki Naik, along with party leaders Sandesh Teleikar Dessai and Minu Gawade, alleged that the hospital is functioning with 110 vacant posts, including key positions such as Medical Superintendent, Surgeon, Radiologist, Paediatrician, Psychiatrist, Neurologist, and Lab Technicians.
The party claimed that the hospital lacks essential facilities, such as a CT scan, an ICU ward, and a blood bank, leading to a sharp rise in patient referrals to Goa Medical College (GMC). The party stated that referrals from Ponda to GMC have increased by 400 per cent over the past three years.
Describing the situation as “shocking” after a visit to the hospital on Monday to assess the ground reality and interact with patients, the leaders said the conditions were far worse than what the government has projected.
Demanding urgent intervention, AAP called upon the government to fill all vacant posts and upgrade the Ponda ID Hospital into a super-speciality hospital, warning that it would launch a mass agitation if immediate steps were not taken.
