Aam Aadmi Party Youth Wing All India vice president and Goa State coordinator Siddesh Bhagat has slammed the state government for favouring outside taxi operators rather than locals during the State assembly elections accusing it of being a 'government of commission', stated the party in a press release.
"The BJP government talked about an efficient and self-sufficient Goa, where did it disappear when it comes to creating jobs? When we have taxi operators in the State, why are outsiders getting the lucrative taxi business?" questioned Bhagat.
He further said, "It is Rs 4,500 for a taxi driver daily, which means if there are 50 taximen daily, it would be Rs 4.5 lakh a day, and for 26 days it would be rupees 1 crore 17 lakh. The same money would have been deposited into the accounts of the youth in the State, but the State government gave this opportunity to the outsiders".
Adding he said, "The State government has become a government of commissions. This is not the first time the government arranged events that gave the lucrative business to outsiders. Every time the government organizes a social event, outside businesses benefit so they can earn commissions".
AAP leader Chetan Kamat expressed his displeasure over giving business to outsiders. He said, "The state election commission of Goa has invited more than 50 tourist Innova vehicles from Maharashtra and Karnataka for the State assembly elections. Instead of giving business to local entrepreneurs, the commission gave it to outsiders. This is a great injustice to the citizens of Goa".
"During this pandemic, the only business that has been in the hands of Goans is the taxi business, which has been under threat. With more luxury vehicles available for tourists in Goa, why did the State Election Commission opt to rent vehicles from outsiders?", questioned Kamat.
