The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has constituted a six-member core team to spearhead preparations for the upcoming Goa Assembly elections, expected to be held early next year.
The committee will be headed by Goa unit president Valmiki Naik and includes the party’s two sitting legislators, Venzy Viegas and Cruz Silva. The other members are AAP working president and Chinchinim sarpanch Gerson Gomes, State general secretary (Organisation) Prashant Naik and vice-president Sandesh Telekar.
The party said the core team will oversee election-related planning and coordinate organisational activities ahead of the polls. The announcement was made through an official communiqué issued on Sunday by AAP national general secretary Pankaj Gupta.
With the Assembly elections drawing closer, the appointment of the core team reflects the party’s efforts to strengthen its organisational machinery and streamline its campaign and election strategy.
AAP has announced an alliance with Vijai Sardesai-led Goa Forward Party (GFP), calling it ‘Goa First’. However, beyond the joint announcement by Sardesai and AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal in mid-September, the alliance’s ground campaign has faced turbulence, with sections of the GFP leadership remaining sceptical about the arrangement.
