AAP questions PWD official on irregular water supply in Anjuna

MAPUSA
For the second time within a month, Aam Aadmi Party members along with the residents of Vagator marched to the PWD office in Mapusa and protested against irregular water supply in the village.

The locals said the issue of water scarcity has been going on for more than a year and none of the PWD officials took heed of it.

Questioning the injustice done to them, the villagers said the pipelines supplying water for households were far smaller in size compared to commercial ones.

They further informed that maximum number of wards in Anjuna does not receive proper water supply.

“What is the use of having a tap in every house if there is no water supply? The BJP-led government is boasting about “Har Ghar Jal” but in reality the government has failed to provide water through the taps. Given the situation, it looks like Goans are going to suffer a lot during the summers,” said Umesh Colvalkar, a resident of Anjuna.

Another local, Earnest Dsouza informed that he highlighted the water scarcity issue several times and even visited the local MLA Vinoda Paliencar but he kept ignoring the issue.

AAP member Pujan Malvankar disclosed that the PWD had erected a water tank 10 years ago as a permanent solution in the area.

“But to our surprise when we went to inspect the water tank we found it was not operating and it was not connected with the pipeline,” Malvankar said. “We have asked the PWD in-charge to come and inspect the site,” he added.

PWD Assistant Engineer K Chandran assured the agitated locals to visit the village to carry out an inspection on February 11.

It may be recalled the residents of Anjuna had visited the PWD office in Mapusa last month demanding the engineers to carry out the inspection of the area.
