PANAJI: AAP Vice President Roque Mascarenhas has written to the Lokayukta seeking a suo motu probe into alleged financial irregularities in the Goa Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC).
Mascarenhas alleged that GIDC spent around Rs 25 lakh on changing its logo, Rs 19 crore on a website and Rs 3 crore on the ‘Invest Goa’ initiative, questioning the justification for the expenditure.
He also raised allegations of irregularities in the auction of industrial plots, claiming that under the chairmanship of former MLA Alexio Reginald Lourenco, the same beneficiary was allegedly allotted multiple plots.
Mascarenhas further alleged that Communidade land was being used for industrial purposes without being properly leased and questioned the employment generated by industrial estates.
He said industrial estates were expected to generate revenue and employment but alleged that adequate jobs had not been created, calling for greater accountability in the functioning of GIDC.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said that any specific allegations of irregularities should be brought to his notice, while questioning why the concerns were being raised only now if the alleged irregularities had been taking place for a long period.
