The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Wednesday condemned the BJP government for amending the Goa Municipalities Act and claimed that democracy is being killed by it.
"Dussehra is meant to kill evil forces, however, the BJP is trying to kill democracy. All of the BJP's activities, from buying MLAs to making policy amendments, are done through the backdoor," AAP's State convenor Amit Palekar said.
According to Palekar, the BJP government has already undermined democracy by buying eight MLAs from Congress and are attempting to destroy the democratic processes at the grassroots level.
"All of these tweaks were done to end the opposition."
Palekar demanded that Chief Minister Pramod Sawant explain the significance of amending the Goa Municipalities Act.
The party's Velim MLA Cruz Silva said: “Democracy is in danger under the BJP government which is trying to wipe out the Opposition through Operation Lotus."
Party's Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas has strongly condemned the backdoor entry of the ordinance and asserted that the BJP and Congress are working together to sabotage the democratic process.
“AAP will keep speaking against the government's misdeeds," Viegas said.
