The Shadow Council for Margao has said that the moves to get an Ordinance enforced to grab power at the Municipal level is indeed a very shameful act, and needs to be condemned by all.
SCM Convenor & former Margao Municipal Chairperson Savio Coutinho has cautioned one needs to realise that this Ordinance will not be limited to Margao alone, but is going to be a law for the future, and will apply to all the local bodies.
"This is nothing but total political interference in local body politics,” Coutinho charged, adding “While every successive government is dragging its feet over the implementation of the 73rd and 74th Amendments, this government is now imposing its command over the local bodies via the proposed ordinance.”
