Voicing concern over the government's indifferent attitude in tackling controversial activity on the eco-sensitive Konko island off Palolem coast, the Canacona branch of AAP has assured to highlight the exploitation of Konko island.
“In two days, we will submit a memorandum on Konko island. We will not allow this island to be threatened as it could be detrimental to the existence of the residents and ecology in the area,” said Sandesh Telekar of AAP (Canacona), during an interaction with the media on Tuesday.
“Beyond issuing a showcause notice, authorities have not shown any serious interest in stopping the illegalities on Konko island,” Telekar added.
Besides holding the government and Canacona MLA and Sports Minister Ramesh Tawadkar responsible for their silence in the matter, the AAP also hit out at the Canacona Municipal Council.
“Even the newly-elected councillors are insensitive to the issue,” stated Telekar in the presence of other AAP activists.
The AAP also warned of staging a protest by planting saplings on the potholed roads from Char-Rasta to Rajbag, Patnem, Palolem, Xeller, if the dilapidated roads are not repaired within eight days.
“These roads have not witessed any maintenance for several years, and despite having an MLA as minister in the government, authorities have failed to carry repair works of these municipal roads since this government came into power,” Telekar said.
The AAP also took a dig at Tawadkar, claiming that the minister’s speech at a function in North Goa had only contradicted his own practices.
“Tawadkar speaks of protecting khazan lands for posterity, but in his own constituency, he is making all efforts to construct a Ravindra Bhavan on khazan land. Besides, he has spoken about maintenance of the Hutatma Chowk, but he cannot maintain one (Hutatma Chowk) in his own constituency and it is in a bad state,” said Telekar.
