Abusing councillors will not be tolerated, warns Vasco mayor

VASCO

Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) Chairperson Girish Borker on Monday warned that strict action would be taken against anyone abusing councillors.

Borker was speaking to reporters after a council meeting convened to discuss and debate on various important issues.

“I have been informed by Councillor Narayan Borkar that he was abused on the phone by a person, selling fruits illegally in a parking area, for doing his duty. This is unacceptable and will invite stringent action, no matter how close he may be connected politically, to send out a message to others” said Girish Borker.

“The MMC has already filed a police complaint in this regard.”

Councillor Narayan Borkar said he was abused on the phone and that one municipal councillor was in connivance with the person abusing him.

“I saw a man illegally selling fruits in a parking space near the markets and requested him to move out from the area, since he was blocking the parking space and causing congestion,” said Narayan Borkar.

“The person was, however, found at the same place the next day and we informed the market committee who decided to go to the spot and talk to him.”

“Someone told that person that I was against his business when I had only done my duty. The next day, a councillor approached me and said that I should not trouble that person and his business. The vendor then called some person in our council and started abusing me with filthy words and this conversation was recorded and sent to me,” he added.
