FDA seizes food items at Mapusa bus stand

MAPUSA

As part of efforts to curb the transportation of food items in interstate passenger buses, the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) on Tuesday conducted a raid at the Mapusa interstate bus stand and seized 150 kgs of paneer and curd along with 50 kgs of fried onion worth Rs 1.5 lakh.

The FDA took action after receiving reports that manufacturers substitute milk fat with edible oil to make Paneer and then ship it to other states.

Accordingly, FDA officials checked the quality of all food parcels arriving from outside the State at the interstate bus stand.

According to sources, an FDA team conducted the raid at around 7 am on Tuesday, after being tipped that paneer would be transported from Thane to Goa.

The FDA team seized the paneer and fried onion which had been brought from Maharashtra through a bus. The team found that these items were not transported properly as per food safety and packaging norms.

After verification, the items were seized and later disposed of with the help of the Mapusa Municipal Council.

In another raid, the FDA team also confiscated cotton candy from vendors in Mapusa town.
