Porvorim police along with their counterparts in Uttarakhand have succeeded in nabbing an accountant in Uttarakhand, in connection with the misappropriation of funds to the tune of Rs 17 crore from a company in Socorro.
Police said the accused Ashok Kumar Sharma (43) of Uttar Pradesh, had fled the State and was hiding in Uttarakhand.
Porvorim police with the help of their counterparts in Uttarkhand collected information about the accused and arrested him at Patelnagar“Dehradun on January 1.
Uttarakhand Police Inspector Abdul Kalam and a Porvorim police team led by PSI Mandar Parab jointly conducted this operation.
In a police complaint, an official of the company stated that the suspect was working as an accountant in the company and was dealing with company bank accounts, payments, investments, transfer of shares, and daily stock trading through company accounts.
Taking advantage of the responsibilities entrusted to him, the accountant is alleged to have misappropriated Rs 17 crore belonging to the company and transferred most of the amount to his own bank account.
The matter came to light on December 28 when the year-ending audit was being carried out by the company and an amount of Rs 17 crore was found missing from the company accounts.
The suspect had joined the company as accountant in 2012 and had recently gone to his native place to attend to an ailing relative.
