He may have been acquitted in a nine-year case to be declared the rightful owner of a motorcycle purchased in 2009, but the owner gave vent to his frustration by setting ablaze the motorcycle outside the court complex on the same day he took possession of the vehicle.
A video clipping of a Bullet motorcycle in flames had gone viral across online groups and it was later revealed that the owner Anwar Shah Rajguru (47) of Sawantwadi but residing at Colvale, had set ablaze the motorcycle out of frustration over the long court
case.
He was later arrested by Mapusa Police for committing the offence.
According to reports, Rajguru had booked a Bullet motorcycle from a dealer in Panaji in May 2009 and had sought to register the motorcycle in the Mapusa RTO office.
However, the Voter ID card he had presented displayed his name, but the photo was that of a different person.
Then Assistant Director of Transport Nandkishor Arolkar later filed a complaint against Rajguru and acting on the complaint, Mapusa Police booked a case against Rajguru and an agent before the Mapusa JMFC.
The case prolonged for nine long years, during which time the motorcycle was in custody of the court, but located in the showroom. The court finally acquitted Rajguru and the agent in May 2018.
After the court judgment, Rajguru completed all procedures and took charge of his motorcycle on Thursday, after registering the vehicle with the Mapusa RTO by paying Rs 22,000 as road tax.
Frustrated over the lengthy court case which eventually led to his acquittal, Rajguru allegedly decided to give vent to his frustration in a bizarre manner.
After completing the registration of the motorcycle, he took possession of the vehicle from the showroom, placed it on a rickshaw and took it to the main road in front of the Mapusa JMFC.
He then allegedly poured petrol on the motorcycle and set it ablaze, before fleeing from the site. A Mapusa fire brigade later extinguished the fire.
Following an investigation, Rajguru later confessed to Mapusa police that he had committed the act after being frustrated due to the prolonged court case.
Mapusa Police arrested Rajguru under Section 336 of IPC for causing danger to life by setting ablaze a motorcycle in a public place.
Having successfully fought a legal battle for nine years to prove his ownership, Rajguru now faces another court case on charges of having destroyed his vehicle.
