Action sought over delay in poll to elect Rumdamol VP sarpanch

Urges P’yat Director to hold elections to vacant posts

MARGAO

Rumdamol panch member Omran Khan on Friday made a representation to the Director of Panchayats over the inordinate delay in holding elections to the vacant posts of Sarpanch and Deputy Sarpanch of the Rumdamol Village Panchayat.

Accompanied by social activist Pratima Coutinho, Khan submitted the representation to Panchayat Director Dashrat Redkar, drawing his attention to the delay and its impact on the functioning of the Village Panchayat and the people.

He said the continued absence of an elected Sarpanch and Deputy Sarpanch, along with the uncertainty over the Panchayat’s leadership, was affecting its smooth and effective functioning. “The people of Rumdamol-Davorlim should not be made to suffer because of administrative inaction, procedural uncertainty or political considerations. There is also a growing perception among the people that the election has been unnecessarily delayed due to political interests and internal differences. Whether or not such apprehensions are correct, the continued failure of the authorities to provide a transparent explanation has only strengthened these doubts,” he said.

In his representation, Khan made several demands, including a request to the Panchayat Director to personally intervene and clarify whether any report, explanation or record had been prepared regarding the failure to conduct the election on 04/08/2025. He also sought details of what action, if any, was taken by the Directorate of Panchayats after the election did not take place on that date.

He further sought an explanation as to why Panchayat Resolution No. 5(2), dated 09/09/2025, requesting the election, was not acted upon promptly. He also questioned why the Panchayat’s first written letter, dated 14/11/2025 and received by the Directorate on 17/11/2025, did not result in immediate action.

While demanding that the Panchayat Director fix responsibility for the failure and prolonged delay, Khan called for immediate steps to hold the election to the vacant posts of Sarpanch and Deputy Sarpanch in accordance with the law and due procedure.
