Activist alleges land scam by MPDA

PANAJI

Activist Narayan Naik has alleged that out of 68,519 square metres of land from Survey No 14/1 that was acquired for residential plots, a part has been sold by Mormugoa Planning and Development Authority (MPDA) to Mormugoa Port Trust (MPT) and the remaining is set to be given out to a private party on PPP basis and has demanded action.

Narayan Naik pointed out that the land acquired for residential plots under the Centrally-sponsored scheme Integrated Development of Small & Medium Towns (IDSMT) is being used for another purpose rather than for residential plots.

Naik who has been following up on the case through his series of complaints from 2021, has demanded an FIR.

The Mormugoa Planning and Development Authority, which is only a custodian on behalf of the government, has no authority to sell the land directly. Also, the land sold to MPT is done without auction, said Naik.

As per official correspondence received by the complainant under RTI, a total of 68,519 square metres of land was acquired by MPDA from Dabolim Village Survey No 14/1 (Part) at the rate of Rs 25 per square metre from Sancoale comunidade in 1994.

The land was acquired for residential plots under the Centrally-sponsored scheme Integrated Development of Small & Medium Towns (IDSMT).

From this land, 20,000 was sold to MPT in 1999 by MPDA.

The activist alleged that now, the MPDA is trying to hand over the remaining land to a private party on a PPP basis using some of it for roads and other purposes.
