Concerned about storage of hazardous industrial chemical containers on the Azossim-Mandur comunidade land, an activist has written to various authorities to conduct a probe into the activity.
The activist, Ramrao Wagh, also demanded an investigation into the construction of a 15-metre road.
In his complaint, Wagh said there has been a continuous occurrence of suspicious storage of industrial grade chemical containers of huge capacity on the barren communidade land of Azossim-Mandur.
“There were a few containers as on November 2020. Now, over 15 huge containers have been transported and stored in this area in the last fortnight. There is every possibility that more such containers could be stored here damaging the area,” the complaint states.
“It is also to be noted that an over 15-metre wide pucca road is being constructed in this communidade land by unknown persons. Around 50 metres road is already constructed and there is every likelihood that it will be constructed further down through the communidade land to provide access to a mega housing project coming up in Azossim,” Wagh further points out.
Stating that transportation and dumping of these chemical tanks pose serious risk to the natural habitat found abundantly in the area, Wagh has requested authorities to take immediate cognisance and stop both activities.
He has further demanded that a probe be initiated into the transportation and storage of chemical containers.
Copies of his complaint have been sent to the revenue minister, North Goa collector, dy collector (flying squad), Tiswadi mamlatdar, Agassaim PI, GSPCB member secretary, Corlim PHC health officer, Administrator of Communidades, Azossim Communidade attorney and the Azossim Mandur sarpanch.
