MARGAO
Upping the ante against the controversial amendment to the Goa Land Development & Building Construction Regulations Act, activists and concerned citizens conducted an awareness programme on the amendment at Carvota in Loutolim on Tuesday.
Speakers, including Abhijit Prabhudesai, Diana Tavares and others explained to the largely attended gathering the implications of the amendment on the state and its environment.
The speakers pointed out that the amendment, if not scrapped, will spell doom for Goa and its people.
Activists have been holding awareness programmes on the controversial amendment across the State, building momentum against the government to scrap it.
Abhijit said similar programmes have been planned at Betalbatim and at the gram sabha of panchayats on coming Sunday to educate the people on its implications.
Some of the panchayats and the gram sabhas have adopted resolutions demanding the scrapping of the amendment.
Sources pointed out that concerned citizens are working on the ground to come under a common platform and hold a demonstration in the State capital against the amendment.
