Even as the Old Goa panchayat issued the stop-work order to the controversial structure, heritage lovers were not impressed as they said the action has come late.
One of the organisers of the fast satyagraha, Glen Cabral, informed that the decision has come a bit late as the action should have been taken 4-5 months back when the agitation initially started.
“We are not satisfied with notices. What we want is demolition, only then we will be satisfied,” he informed and demanded that the heritage sites should be demarcated in the Regional Plan.
Aruna Wagh has said the stop-work order is a mockery. “After the construction is nearly complete, they are issuing a stop-work order when they should have issued demolition order,” Wagh said.
“I am also afraid that Old Goa could lose the UNESCO world heritage tag if such illegal constructions are allowed to come up in heritages sites,” she added. Activist Tara Kerkar also said action by the panchayat should have come long back not when the structure has been completed.
