Sundar Dey held hostage in Goa, Rs 23 lakh extorted

Calangute police have registered a case against television actors Kunal Verma, Pooja Banerjee alias Pooja Bose, Piyush Kothari and others on charges of kidnapping and extorting a ransom of Rs 23 lakh from Shyam Sundar Dey, a producer of TV serials in West Bengal.
Malabika Dey of Kolkata, the wife of the victim producer Shyam Sundar Dey, had filed a complaint with the West Bengal Police in this regard, stating that the incident had taken place between May 31 and June 4.
The suspects are accused to have conspired a criminal conspiracy and had intercepted the victim Shyam Sundar Dey while he was travelling in a rented car with his colleagues. They forcibly abducted him from the car.
The complainant alleged that the accused had locked him up in a hotel in Anjuna and a villa in Saligao. They are also accused to have extorted Rs 23 lakh from Shyam Sundar Dey by threatening to frame him in a false case of drug smuggling.
Accordingly, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Bidyanagar, West Bengal, had filed a Zero FIR under Sections 126(2), 137(2), 140(2), 308(5), 115(2), 351(3), 3(5), 61(2) of the BNS and had transferred the case to the Calangute Police.
Accordingly, the Calangute Police registered a case on Thursday and started investigations.
The victim, Shyam Sundar Dey, has been summoned to the hotel in Anjuna and the villa in Salgiao where he was kept locked up, as well as to confirm the identity and location of the kidnapping incident.
Further investigation into the case is being conducted by Sub-Inspector Vishal Mandrekar under the guidance of Police Inspector Paresh Naik.
Meanwhile, Puja Banerjee is reported to have commented in the matter via Instagram on Friday.
While not directly naming anyone, she referred to the stress that she and her husband have been going through.
